Travis Perkins Masters - in numbers

The Travis Perkins Masters takes place at Woburn Golf Club this week and we’ve crunched the numbers to come up with some of the best facts and figures from the history of the event.

15– this year marks the 15thanniversary of Travis Perkins’ sponsorship of the Staysure Tour. The Northampton-based builders’ merchants began their involvement with the Tour when they sponsored the Travis Perkins Senior Masters at Wentworth Club between 2002 and 2005. They then took over the sponsorship of the existing tournament at Woburn Golf Club in 2008.

18– years of the Travis Perkins Masters. The first staging was in 2001, under its former name of STC Bovis Lend Lease European Invitational, which was won by Bob Shearer.

0– In celebration of Travis Perkins’ 15-year involvement with the Staysure Tour, admission to the event will be free on Friday. Spectators of all ages will be granted access to the famous Duke’s Course on ‘Free Friday’, August 31, with the option to give a donation to Prostate Cancer UK, the tournament’s official charity.

5– There have been five hole-in-ones during the history of the Travis Perkins Masters, all occurring on either the third or 12thholes. Steve Stull was the first to card an ace at the tournament when he found the third hole in 2002, before Maurice Bembridge aced the 12thin 2008. There were two hole-in-ones at the third in 2010, with Martin Poxon and David J Russell both achieving the feat at the third. The most recent hole-in-one belongs to Chris Williams, who carded an ace at the third hole in 2016.

3 – consecutive Travis Perkins Masters wins for Colin Montgomerie. The 2010 Ryder Cup captain triumphed at Woburn Golf Club three times between 2013 and 2015. In doing so, he became the only player to ever win the same tournament three times consecutively on both the European Tour and the Staysure Tour – following his victories at the PGA Championship between 1998 and 2000.

10,000– the amount, in pounds, which the winner will receive in addition to the prize fund. The £10,000 is given to the winner by the Duke of Bedford, the President of Woburn Golf Club. It is known as The Duke’s Bonus and does not count towards the Order of Merit.

-12– is the lowest tournament score at the Travis Perkins Masters, achieved by Montgomerie in 2014. The Scot went wire-to-wire in defending his tournament title and set the record for the lowest score in the event’s history. In addition, the win meant Montgomerie became the fastest player to reach four Staysure Tour titles while also becoming the first player to earn more than €500,000 in a single season.

1– player managed to card three under par rounds last year. Englishman Philip Golding secured his first Travis Perkins Masters title and in doing so shot rounds of 70-71-70 for a five under par total. The lowest round of the week belonged to Clark Dennis for his second round 65, seven under par.

13– different winners of the event from ten different countries. Travis Perkins Masters champions have hailed from all four corners of the globe, including Australian Bob Shearer in 2001, Jamaican Delroy Cambridge the following year, Zimbabwean Tony Johnstone in 2009 and Boonchu Ruangkit of Thailand in 2011.

6,904– the length of the course in yards. The longest hole is the 537-yard 14th hole while the shortest is the 134-yard par three third. The par of the Duke’s Course at Woburn is 72.
