Now in its fourth year, the Madrid Masters returns to its October slot after being played in May in 2010. It was Englishman Luke Donald who captured the title on that occasion at Real Sociedad Hípica Española Club de Campo, succeeding compatriot Ross McGowan who triumphed the previous year at Centro Nacional de Golf. South African Charl Schwartzel was crowned champion in the inaugural event in 2008, which was played at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid.
