Tournament guide: Dimension Data Pro-Am

The Road to Mallorca travels to George this week with the Dimension Data Pro-Am taking place at the picturesque Fancourt Golf Estate. Here’s everything you need to know before the action gets under way…

Golfers’ paradise

Fancourt Golf Estate, set at the foot of the majestic Outeniqua Mountains, is one of the best golf resorts in the world which provides an unforgettable experience for guests. Visitors can choose to stay in one of the 115 luxurious rooms at the Fancourt Hotel and take advantage of many leisure activities, including The Spa with an indoor heated Roman Bath and world class wellness treatments.

The Dimension Data Pro-Am will be played over Fancourt’s three courses – Montagu, Outeniqua and The Links – all three of which were designed by nine-time Major champion Gary Player and are ranked in the top 20 best golf courses in South Africa. The Links is currently ranked as the country’s number one course by Golf Digest South Africa and is the iconic golfing hallmark of the Fancourt Estate. The Links has hosted a number of prestigious golf tournaments, including the 2003 Presidents Cup, 2005 SA Open and the DP World Tour’s Volvo Golf Champions in 2012.

South African stars

JC Ritchie

The 2023 Road to Mallorca’s second co-sanctioned event between the European Challenge Tour and the Sunshine Tour presents the opportunity for European players to compete with some of South Africa’s most well-known golfers. JC Ritchie graduated to the DP World Tour last season and he’ll be joined by countrymen Brandon Stone, Darren Fichardt, Trevor Fisher and Wilco Nienaber among others teeing it up at Fancourt this week. Ritchie finished fourth on the 2022 Road to Mallorca Rankings and secured his DP World Tour card, courtesy of two back-to-back victories in South Africa at the start of last year.

European stars

Lucas Bjerregaard

There are also a host of European stars in the field this week, including DP World Tour winners Lucas Bjerregard, Chris Wood, Matteo Manassero, Alvaro Quiros, Joachim B Hansen, Steven Brown, Andrea Pavan and Renato Paratore. Bjerregard’s most recent victory came at the 2018 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at Carnoustie, and a year later he defeated 15-time Major winner Tiger Woods in the quarter-final of the PGA Tour’s WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play.
