The German had started the round two shots clear in North Carolina, but a one under par final round at Rock Barn G&S was not enough to take a third title of the year, as Langer finished on 11 under par and two shots adrift of Michael Allen and Olin Browne.

In sudden death, a birdie four at the first extra hole proved enough for America’s Allen to claim a second win of 2013 and move him up from 12th place to fourth in the money list.

Sweden’s Anders Forsbrand continued a strong run of form on the Champions Tour with a tie for seventh place, his third top ten finish in the last couple of months.

While last year’s MCB Tour Champion David Frost finished in a tie for 20th spot, andTravis Perkins plc Senior Masters winner Colin Montgomerie posted a share of 44thplace on America’s east coast.
