Tom Chaplin confirmed for Wentworth gig

Tom Chaplin, the lead singer of the chart-topping band Keane, will perform live at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club on Sunday May 29, adding a further dash of glamour to an already star-studded event.

The tournament is set to be better than ever this year with super-group Mike and the Mechanics cranking up the amplifiers on the new, expanded Show Stage with their repertoire of hits on the Saturday evening.

Chaplin, who sold more than ten million albums worldwide with Keane, will then make it a weekend to remember when he and his band bring down the curtain on the event the following night.

Sussex-born Chaplin, who is a keen golfer and cricketer, will also play in the BMW PGA Championship Celebrity Pro-Am on the Wednesday, joining a host of famous names from the worlds of sport and entertainment.

“I’ve always loved playing in the BMW PGA Championship Pro-Am, so I’m really excited that this year I’ll be performing there too,” said Chaplin.

“Being able to watch world-class golfers up close is an amazing experience and you learn so much from being alongside them for 18 holes. I’ll definitely be back in my comfort zone on the Sunday night though, and we’ll be looking to sign off a fantastic week in style with a great performance.”

Jamie Birkmyre, Championship Director of the BMW PGA Championship, said: “Having Tom Chaplin perform on the Show Stage is a terrific addition to what already promises to be a superb event.

“We’ve had some fantastic nights over the years in the Championship Village, but this year’s weekend entertainment is going to be hard to beat with Mike and the Mechanics rocking the stage on Saturday and Tom and his band closing proceedings on Sunday. Tom is one of the most talented singer-songwriters in the country and his hits with Keane are instantly recognisable.

“The BMW PGA Championship has become the perfect mix of golf and live music. Tickets are selling fast, so I would urge people to visit the website or call the hotline as soon as possible to guarantee being there.”

Advance tickets for Sunday May 29 are available now, representing excellent value at £45. Advance tickets are also available for the other three tournament days, the Tuesday practice day and the Celebrity Pro-Am.
