Tight at the top in Beijing

Julien Guerrier and Adrian Otaegui joined Matt Wallace at the top of a congested leaderboard on day three of the Volvo China Open.

There was little wind at Topwin Golf & Country Club and the players were making the most of it on Saturday, with just three shots separating the top 22 in the field.

Overnight leader Wallace turned in 34 to get to 11 under but France's Guerrier and Spaniard Otaegui were four under for their rounds after 11 holes to join him at the summit.

South Korean Jinho Choi fired a 65 in the morning to set the clubhouse target at ten under, with Italian Andrea Pavan also at that mark after a 66.

Ireland's Paul Dunne was in double figures after 14 holes, a shot clear of defending champion Alexander Levy, fellow Frenchman Clément Sordet and home favourite Wu Ashun.

2017 Korean PGA money list winner Choi birdied the fourth and sixth before eagling the eighth, added another birdie on the 15th and holed a long right-to-lefter on the last for a second eagle of the day.

Wallace parred his first two holes but he put his approach on the third to ten feet and the group at the top of the leaderboard would soon swell to six.

Guerrier holed a monster putt on the first and then took advantage of the par five fourth and eighth to get to ten under.

Soomin Lee was another man to make the most of the eighth, holing from eight feet to add to gains on the third and fifth to join top spot.

Alexander Björk birdied the third but it looked like the field was moving away from him before three birdies in a row from the eighth - including a tricky putt from the fringe on the tenth - had him in double figures.

Pavan finished alongside Björk in a tie for third at last week's Trophée Hassan II and he continued his good form as he joined Choi in the clubhouse after a 66.

The Qualifying School graduate was bogey-free in his effort, making gains on the third, sixth, eighth, 12th, 16th and 18th.

Björk's excellent run came to an end with a bogey on the 11th after he missed the green and failed to get up and down.

Otaegui had started his round with seven straight pars but a hat-trick of birdies from the eighth saw him surge into a share of the lead.

Wallace was the man to break out of the logjam with an enormous drive up the eighth setting up an eagle chance, although he had to settle for a birdie.

It was soon a three-way tie as playing partners Otaegui and Guerrier both birdied the 11th, with Otaegui driving the green and Guerrier getting up and down from the sand.

Dunne had been a picture of consistency in his round so far, making birdies on the fourth, fifth, ninth, 11th and 14th.

Lee bogeyed the tenth and Björk dropped a shot on the 11th to slip to nine under alongside Nacho Elvira, Scott Jamieson and Matteo Manassero.

Levy had signed for a round of 65 with Sordet and 2015 champion Wu both carding 66s.

Finn Tapio Pulkkanen made the 13th hole-in-one of the season and second of the week as he aced the sixth from 135 yards with a 53-degree wedge.

He was too late to win himself a Volvo XC90, however, with Japan's Hideto Tanihara taking that prize with his ace on the 16th on day one.
