Three to watch: MCB Tour Championship – Mauritius

The Staysure Tour season-finale is upon us and players are set for the final 54 holes of 2019. We take a look at three competitors who could be in contention on the Legends Course at Constance Belle Mare Plage this week.

Price

Phillip Price

The current leader on the Staysure Tour Order of Merit, looking to claim his first John Jacobs Trophy. Price has been the most consistent player on the Staysure Tour in 2019, recording 11 top tens, including victory at the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship in August.

His most recent top ten came at the MCB Tour Championship – Seychelles last week when he finished two strokes behind winner Peter Fowler in a share for third place. The 2002 Ryder Cup hero has good form at the Legends Course in Mauritius after a tied fourth 12 months ago, which matched his best result at the European Tour Destinations venue after the same result in 2016.

With the John Jacobs Trophy on the line, expect Price to finish the job with another strong performance this week.

James Kingston

Kingston nearly crossed the line for his first Staysure Tour win at the MCB Tour Championship – Seychelles last week, finishing runner-up for the third time this year. However, those top fives, plus two third place finishes see the South African sit in prime position to challenge Price.

He currently occupies second place and would overtake Price with a victory this week, should the Welshman finish outside the top ten. Kingston is arguable the most consistent player behind Price in 2019 and if he can find the form that saw him finish T7 in 2017 and T4 in 2016 at Constance Belle Mare Plage, then expect a fight to the end for the MCB Tour Championship – Mauritius and the John Jacobs Trophy.

Paul Lawrie

The 1999 Open Champion currently sits in 11th place on the Order of Merit, on course to claim the Rookie of the Year award. His victory at the Scottish Senior Open was the first of four consecutive top ten results, including a runner-up finish at the inaugural Murhof Legends – Austrian Senior Open and a share of third at the Farmfoods European Senior Masters hosted by Peter Baker.

Although the Scotsman has never played the Legends Course, he has had time to acclimatise to the weather after playing on the European Tour at the AfraAsia Bank Mauritius Open last week.
