Three to watch: Indoor Golf Group Challenge

Road to Mallorca Rankings points are becoming more and more important as the season etches into its final weeks and here are three men who could be in with a chance of making a move at this week’s Indoor Golf Group Challenge…

Form Horse: Matt Baldwin

Matthew Baldwin

England’s Matt Baldwin is a man who has been the picture of consistency this year, missing just two cuts in his last 15 events. He has been solid if unspectacular for the most part, but has seen an upturn in results during his last three starts. The 36-year-old competed in the DP World Tour’s UK Swing during July and August, finishing outside the top 20 only once and has been on an upward trajectory in the last three weeks. He finished in a tie for 15th place at the Cazoo Open supported by Gareth Bale, shared seventh at the ISPS Handa World Invitational presented by AVIV Clinics, before tying for 12th on his return to Challenge Tour action at last week’s Dormy Open.

Home Favourite: Mikael Lindberg

Mikael Lindberg (2)

Sweden’s Mikael Lindberg flew the Swedish flag at Österåkers Golfklubb last week and you would be well placed to back him to continue carrying that baton in Helsingborg this week. His tie for ninth last week was his first top ten in two months, but being sat 34th on the Road to Mallorca Rankings shows how impressive he’s been in just this second season on the Challenge Tour. He finished 70th on the Road to Mallorca in 2021, therefore keeping his card, and he has built on that impressively this year, improving on his single top ten of last year with one third place and three further top tens to date in 2022.

The Outsider: Oliver Lindell

LINDELL

Oliver Lindell, of Finland, is currently 64th on the Road to Mallorca Rankings and in need of a strong end to the season in order to earn a place in the Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final supported by The R&A. Following a run of three successive missed cuts in June and July, Lindell has started to build his form back up over recent weeks with five cuts made in a row, including a tie for third at the Euram Bank Open last month. Replicating that finish this week would see the 23-year-old safely inside the top 45 so, with that incentive ahead of him, the Finn could be one to watch this week.
