Three to Watch: Costa Brava Challenge

The European Challenge Tour remains in Spain for the second tournament of the Spanish Swing for the Costa Brava Challenge at Empordà Golf and here are our Three to Watch this week.

John Murphy

John Murphy

John Murphy is searching for his maiden Challenge Tour title after coming close in the most recent event at the Empordà Challenge. The Irishman finished in a tie for third place behind winner Julien Brun and England’s Jonathan Thomson, who came second. Murphy has recently found form having finished in the top 20 in three of his last five outings, including a ninth place finish at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship on the European Tour. The 23-year-old has climbed 19 places on the Road to Mallorca Rankings into 69th place in recent weeks and will be eyeing another big week at Empordà Golf in order to have the chance to compete at the Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final supported by The R&A next month.

Haraldur Magnus

Haraldur Magnus will be looking to build on his tenth place finish at the Empordà Challenge as he gets set for week two of the Spanish Swing. The Icelander has had some impressive results on the Road to Mallorca including a tied eighth place finish at the Open de Bretagne in June and most recently a tied second place finish at the B-NL Challenge in the Netherlands, in which he was beaten in a four-way play-off by Spaniard Alfredo Garcia-Heredia. As it stands, Magnus is the first man on the outside looking in, currently standing in 46th position on the Road to Mallorca Rankings, and will be aiming to do enough to climb just one spot or more for the opportunity to travel to Mallorca next month.

Jesper Svensson

Jesper Svensson (2)

Jesper Svensson currently sits in 33rd place on the Road to Mallorca Rankings and has a late dart into the top 20 in his sights. The Swede is still in search of his maiden Challenge Tour title having come close in the most recent event, the Empordà Challenge, where he finished in a tie for third place alongside Murphy. The 25-year-old has come close to winning on the 2021 Road to Mallorca, having had four top 20 finishes including his runner up spot at the Vierumäki Finnish Challenge in August.
