Iberostar Real Club de Golf Novo Sancti Petri again plays host to the European Challenge Tour this week, with the Andalucía Challenge de Cadiz taking place from November 11-14 and we have picked out three players to keep an eye on.
Pedro Oriol
Spaniard Pedro Oriol played in the final group in the Andalucía Challenge de España and although he could not secure the victory, it was another step in the right direction for the 34-year-old. He earned his first victory at the 2017 Rolex Trophy and also won a gold medal alongside countryman Scott Fernandez in the European Golf Team Championships at Gleneagles Resort in 2018. Oriol, however, suffered a broken knee later that year and has endured a long road back to fitness and form. He was co-leader after 54 holes last week and posted a closing one under par round of 71 to earn a tie for third place.
Christopher Mivis
Only once has Belgium’s Christopher Mivis recorded more top ten finishes than this year on the European Challenge Tour and a win could be just around the corner. He finished tied tenth in the season-opening Limpopo Championship, tied eighth at the Austrian Open and tied ninth at the Northern Ireland Open Supported by The R&A. The 32-year-old finished in a tie for 22nd place last week, finishing on two under par, and will be looking to improve on that finish this week at the same venue.
Gudmundur Kristjansson
One of the stars of Icelandic golf, Gudmundur Kristjansson will be looking for redemption this week after narrowly missing out on the weekend in the Andalucía Challenge de España. The 28-year-old bogeyed the 36th hole to miss the cut by one after bouncing back into contention from an opening four over par round of 76. He earned playing rights on the Challenge Tour for 2020 after winning three times on the Nordic Golf League in 2019, and has steadily got to grips with life at this level. Four rounds in the 60s and a tie for fifth place at the Northern Ireland Open showed he had the game to compete on the Challenge Tour and he is now well placed to fight for his first title.
