Three in a row for Wang?

When Jeunghun Wang birdied the 72nd hole last week in Mauritius he became the youngest player in European Tour history to win back-to-back events. This week he could break yet more long-standing records.

"I can't believe that I've won two weeks in a row," Wang said after winning. "I'm so excited right now and really happy that I have won.

“I still cannot believe it. I was so nervous. I still am dreaming. I feel like I'm dreaming right now,” said Wang.

“Sunday was my father's birthday, so it's a double, extra bonus. I think I gave him a big present.”

Only two players have ever won three consecutive European Tour events: Sir Nick Faldo and Seve Ballesteros.

Faldo was first, winning the Paco Rabane French Open, Martini International and Car Care Plan International in 1983 before Seve repeated the feat in 1986 by triumphing in the Carroll’s Irish Open, Johnnie Walker Monte Carlo Open and Peugeot Open de France.

Twenty year old Wang beat Seve’s record of being the youngest player to win back-to-back events on the European Tour. The Spanish legend was 21 when he won the Braun German Open and Scandinavian Enterprise Open in 1978.

Ballesteros held the record for 38 years before Wang completed the feat 221 days earlier last week in Mauritius, becoming the 34th player to win back-to-back events and the first since Rory McIlroy in 2014.

Can the South Korean continue the history making this week at The K Club?

"I didn’t know about the record but I saw it on the European Tour website, so it would be really proud for me to join them,” he said.

"I hope I can win three in a row, but this week is a really big tournament and it's my first time in Ireland, so I'm not sure. But I’ll be trying my best.”
