The US Open on Social Media

All 156 players have now arrived at Oakmont for the year's second Major Championship and have been busy getting their first look at one of the toughest courses anywhere in the world.

Social media US Open

In the past, players would have discussed the course and experience with each other, or perhaps the media. However, it's 2016, and the players have been sharing photos and videos on social media to show fans what it's like to play at the US Open Championship. Here’s some of the best social media from the week so far.

Last season’s Rookie of the Year, Byeong Hun An, was one of the first players on site and immediately took to Instagram to show just how tough things will be around this green this week. Make sure to watch this video to the end.

One man who knows a thing or two about the US Open is Martin Kaymer. The German won the title in 2014 by eight shots but even he knows how hard Oakmont will be this week, especially on the par three eighth hole.

"This will be a challenge," is an opinion shared by many this week. However, Max Kieffer showed just how much of a challenge the greens will be with this video on Monday.

Andy Sullivan hasn’t played safe off the tee during his practice rounds. The smiling Englishman has taken driver whenever possible, and shared this slow mo on Tuesday.

However Sully is smart enough to know that all players will find the rough at some point this week and he shared this video on Tuesday giving us all an idea of just how brutal the US Open rough can be.

Fellow Englishman Andrew Johnston is making his US Open debut this week and has already been talking to Church Pews bunker on the third hole. The Twitter account may be a parody but Beef’s response was pure comedy.

The comedy didn’t stop there as Johnston also shared this image of the moment he was mistaken for Shane Lowry on the driving range. Must be the beard Beefy!

Rafa Cabrera Bello has been in top form in 2016 and his social media game is pretty strong too. Check out this panoramic photo he shared from the fourth tee.

Masters Champion Danny Willett has admitted it has been testing getting used to life in the public eye since his win at Augusta. Another big adjustment for the Englishman has been the birth of his son Zachariah, especially when it comes to sharing a plane seat on the way to the US Open.

Danny Willett arrived on Tuesday and after a long day at Oakmont, went back to his house and enjoyed some American culture, the NBA Finals. Clearly the Masters champion is a big Lebron James fan.

Players often group together for practice rounds and there was something of a Ryder Cup feeling to Luke Donald's on Tuesday as he and Rory McIlroy took on Rickie Fowler and Justin Thomas.

Looks like Justin Thomas enjoyed the match too. No word yet on who came out on top. Maybe we’ll just have to wait until September?

Thomas also gave us perhaps the best idea of just how rough the rough is this week. Check out what happens to his ball when he drops it in the third cut of rough here.

One player has figured a unique way of playing out the rough. Over to you Bubba.

Bubba’s caddie was on his phone during the practice days as well and captured the incredible footwork of his boss going full out on a tee shot.

Graeme McDowell has a US Open trophy on his mantlepiece thanks to a memorable performance at Pebble Beach in 2010, and he gave his Twitter followers a quick lesson in how to chip from the rough at Oakmont.

Major championships mean major crowds. And Emiliano Grillo showed us what it’s like to be on the range during the US Open.

Justin Rose was one of the last to arrive at Oakmont, flying in on Tuesday. The 2013 US Open champion was all business in his first day on site.

Sunday is Father’s Day and that fact is not lost on Charl Schwartzel. He has his dad’s initials on his ball this week.

Having only qualified for the US Open last week, Jeev Milkha Singh has already discovered the key to Oakmont: keeping the ball in the short grass.

Three-time European Tour winner Kiradech Aphibarnrat has played a couple of practice rounds and has been spending a lot of time on the greens. Having shared this video, Kiradech will be hoping he’s saving his holed putts for the cameras during the tournament.

Another US Open qualifier, England’s Matt Baldwin, took to Instagram to show his monster drive down the closing hole. The hole is more than 480 yards long, yet Matt left himself just a pitching wedge in.

It’s not just players sharing on social media. Check out Justin Rose’s caddie in the grandstand on the driving range at Oakmont.

Graeme McDowell and Henrik Stenson’s caddies also got in on the action as they had a closest-to-the-hole throwing competition down the steep fairway on the opening hole.
