The Open Qualifying Series reaches South Africa

The largest field of the season at this week’s Joburg Open will have the extra incentive of vying for one of the three places on offer at The 146th Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.

A wet Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club will be the third stop on the Open Qualifying Series, with 210 players teeing it up in South Africa in the hope of following in the footsteps of Haydn Porteous, who won the 2016 Joburg Open before going on to finish a very respectable tied 30th at last year’s Open Championship at Royal Troon.

Anthony Wall and Zander Lombard were the other two men who qualified from the event last year, with Wall, Porteous and David Howell, who has played in the year's third Major eight times, explaining just how much a place in one of golf's most coveted tournaments means.

The top three players at the Joburg Open not already exempt who finish in the top ten this week will be presented with Open flags and have the chance to take on Birkdale in July. (Please note if two or more players are tied the Open place will go to the player with the higher Official World Golf Ranking).
