The European Challenge Tour returns to Golf Bluegreen Pléneuf Val André in Pléneuf, France from this week. Here’s what you need to know before play begins on Thursday…

Golf Bluegreen Pléneuf Val André is situated at the top of the Breton cliffs. The jaw-dropping views combine the ocean, the beach, the cliffs and moors as far as the eye can see along the jagged coast of northern Brittany. The course has been home to the Open de Bretagne for 13 years and opened in 1992 and certainly will give the players a test as the weather can be formidable from the coastline.
A unique tournament…
The Open de Bretagne will allow free entry for spectators to allow golf fans the experience of watching links golf in person. There will be a maximum of 600 spectators allowed at the event each day, so be sure to not miss out on this incredible opportunity.
The challenging signature hole…
The course comprises of many spectacular holes, however there is one stand out at the 11th. At 523 yards, the par five starts from an elevated tee which invites a prevailing wind for the players. It tempts the players to tee off in the direction of the beach in order to find the fairway and have a chance of shooting a respectable score.
A competitive field…
Many players teeing off in the Open de Bretagne finding themselves on a consistent run of form in the Challenge Tour schedule, it will certainly take someone who is at the top of their game to win the tournament.
Road to Mallorca Rankings leader Santiago Tarrio of Spain will be playing in Brittany this week having had recent success on home soil after being victorious in the second event of the Spanish Swing, the Challenge de España. Prior to this the Spaniard won the Czech Challenge after defeating Norway’s Kristian Krogh Johannessen and Frenchman Julien Brun in a dramatic four hole play-off to enter the winners’ circle on his 42nd Challenge Tour start.
Also joining Tarriothis week is Dutchman Daan Huizing and German Hurly Long. After winning the Irish Challenge Huizing will be looking to add to his three Challenge Tour titles along with Long, who has had a consistent start to the 2021 schedule with second and ninth place finishes at the Spanish Swing.
