The beers are on Green in Prague

The Czech Republic is famous for its beer and Gavin Green will be taking plenty home to Malaysia after winning a year's supply at the D+D Real Czech Masters.

The prize was on offer for the longest drive on the ninth on Sunday at Albatross Golf Resort and the 24 year old powered his tee-shot 358 yards to ensure his fridge will be fully stocked with Pilsner Urquell for the next 12 months.

The fizzy windfall was the icing on the cake as Green finished third in Prague, and the reigning Asian Tour Order of Merit champion pledged to take the party back to his homeland.

“I love beer,” he said. “All my buddies in Malaysia will have free-flow beer.”

Green's winning tee-shot on the ninth helped him to the second of three consecutive birdies as he carded a closing round of 69 to finish at 17 under.

The rookie moved up to 80th on the Race to Dubai Rankings presented by Rolex and was delighted with his week's work as he gets ever closer to retaining his playing privileges for 2019.

“I played solid today and gave myself a lot of looks, unfortunately some putts didn’t drop on the back nine,” he said. “I made some putts in the middle but it is what it is and it was a very positive week.

“I’m close to keeping my card so it’s definitely positive. There are a couple more events coming up so hopefully I can have a couple of good finishes and I’ll be happy.

“It was fun to have my dad on the bag and some of my buddies are here so we hung out a lot and it’s nice to have a top three from the week.”
