Swiss Challenge: Three to Watch

The Road to Mallorca returns to Golf Saint Apollinaire this week, for the fourth edition of the Swiss Challenge. Here are three players to keep an eye on…

Form horse – Nicolai von Dellingshausen

Nicolai von Dellingshausen

With a solo third finish in last week’s Italian Challenge Open, Nicolai von Dellingshausen climbed to his highest Road to Mallorca Ranking of the season so far, just as the season reaches a crucial time. Back-to-back rounds of 65 over the weekend ensured a second top five finish in his last two outings on the Challenge Tour, with a tied 17th in the Omega European Masters on the DP World Tour sandwiched in between. The Belgian sits 19th in the Rankings with five events to play as he looks to secure a swift return to the DP World Tour.

Local boy – Cédric Gugler

Cedric Gugler

Cédric Gugler is teeing it up just 25 minutes from his home this week and will be hoping to use course knowledge to his advantage as he goes in search of a maiden Challenge Tour title. The Swiss provided one of the stories of the week in the Omega European Masters on the DP World Tour earlier this month, finishing in a career-best tie for fourth in front of local support. Gugler earned promotion to the Challenge Tour earlier this season after winning three times on the ProGolf Tour.

The outsider – Martin Simonsen

Martin Simonsen (4)

Martin Simonsen has struggled to find consistency on the 2024 Road to Mallorca but arrives at Golf Saint Apollinaire having performed well on this layout before. Two years ago, the Dane recorded a seventh-place finish in the Swiss Challenge on his way to a 14th place finish in the Rankings and a first promotion to the DP World Tour. Simonson missed out on keeping his card last season and will be hoping a return to a familiar setting can kick-start a strong finish to this year’s campaign.
