Sullivan soars into outright lead

England’s Andy Sullivan turned in a three under par 33 to snatch the outright lead during the second round of The South African Open Championship hosted by the City of Ekurhuleni.

The 27 year old, who won a trip to space for a hole-in-one at last year’s KLM Open, held a share of the overnight lead along with Jbe Kruger following an opening 66, and resuming on Glendower Golf Club’s back nine birdied the 11th, 12th and 17th.

At nine under the former Walker Cup star led by one from Scotland’s David Drysdale, who was four under for the day through 12, with Dane Lasse Jensen a shot further back despite mixing three bogeys with his four birdies this morning.

Kruger was six over for the day to plummet down the leaderboard, to leave tournament host Ernie Els – who was among the afternoon starters – and fellow South African Richard Sterne tied for fourth on five under.
