Sullivan hits the front

Andy Sullivan moved into a share of the lead as the fog-delayed second round of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship got under way on Friday.

A thick layer of fog covered Abu Dhabi Golf Club on Friday morning leading to two hours and 45 minutes being lost and, with sunset due at 1800 local time, the second round may not get finished until Saturday.

That is no problem for Sullivan, however, who was three under for his round after ten holes to join amateur Bryson DeChambeau at the top of the leaderboard.

The 22 year old American fired a brilliant 64 in the first round but he is among the players who will almost certainly have to return on Saturday as he is in the last group out in round two.

Sullivan, who had three wins on The European Tour last season and won three points last week at the EURASIA CUP presented by DRB-HICOM, continued the theme by opening with three birdies from the tenth.

He dropped a shot on the 15th but a fantastic second shot from a fairway bunker on the first set up another birdie and he moved to the top of the leaderboard.

Henrik Stenson at seven under is due out at 1450 with Rory McIlroy, who is a shot further back, going out ten minutes earlier alongside Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler.

Joost Luiten and George Coetzee were then two under for the day through eight holes at five under with a host of on-course players in the group four shots off the lead.

Matthew Fitzpatrick was battling his way to level par for the day with Swede Niclas Fasth at the same mark and countryman Peter Hanson one under courtesy of a birdie on the ninth.
