Ben Stow fired himself into contention on the final day of the Red Sea Egyptian Challenge Presented by Hassan Allam Properties with a seven under par round of 65 that set the clubhouse target at 15 under par.

The 24 year old went out hours before the leaders but it was his name at the very top of the leaderboard by the time he finished his round at Sokhna Golf Club and, with all his rivals still to play the back nine, with the wind picking up, it may yet be enough to win.

The Englishman was delighted with his week’s work but refused to get carried away after his round, though he admitted he would not be leaving the course any time soon.

“I didn’t think I had a shot today at all to be honest,” he said. “I’ve been playing well and I just thought that if I kept doing what I was doing I’d shoot a low one soon, whether it’s this week or next week, and it just happened to be today.

“I’ve played really nicely all week but I haven’t putted very well, which is unlike me, but today I just holed a few putts and didn’t really give myself much work to do, I didn’t have to get up and down or anything, I just played really solid.

“You never know, golf’s a crazy game, but I’m not going to keep my fingers crossed because there’s a lot of birdie chances out there. Stranger things have happened though, so I’ll keep my clubs out and keep warm.”
