Jumeirah Golf Estates, a European Tour Destination, has signed an exclusive two-year partnership with the reigning Race to Dubai champion and World Number Two, Henrik Stenson, to become an Official Ambassador for the golf and residential development.
Stenson will support the venue’s domestic and global marketing activity, including personal appearances, media and PR. His Tour apparel will now feature the Jumeirah Golf Estates logo on the left-hand sleeve of his shirt, starting with last week’s BMW International Open in Cologne, Germany.
Stenson said; “I’m delighted to be working with Jumeirah Golf Estates. I have a longstanding association with Dubai ever since living there with my family, and since this time Jumeirah Golf Estates has become one of the world’s leading golf developments. I’m proud to be an Ambassador for them.
“Last year was one of the greatest years of my career, capped off perfectly by winning the DP World Tour Championship and Race to Dubai titles at Jumeirah Golf Estates. I can’t wait to get back there and to stay in my new Dubai home.”
Yousuf Kazim, Jumeirah Golf Estates General Manager, said: “Today’s announcement of Henrik joining us as an Ambassador signals another positive stepping stone in the evolving development of Jumeirah Golf Estates. As residents continue to move into our community and membership grows, the next step will be the opening of the main clubhouse prior to the upcoming DP World Tour Championship in November 2014.
Neal Graham, Jumeirah Golf Estates General Manager, Club Operations who was in Germany for the press launch, said: “We are into our sixth year sponsoring the European Tour and DP World Tour Championship, with a recently announced extension through to 2017. I’m delighted that we’ll be able to amplify this sponsorship through our partnership with Henrik, who was the perfect Ambassador choice for our business. We look forward to welcoming Henrik and his family to our community.”
Since bursting onto the scene in 2000, Stenson has gone on to win 12 titles worldwide including the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai Desert Classic, BMW International Open, Nedbank Challenge, and WGC – Accenture Match Play Championship along with the Deutsche Bank Championship, Tour Championship and Players Championship on the PGA Tour and the World Cup of Golf.
In 2013 he was European Tour Golfer of the Year, dominating on both sides of the Atlantic and winning the US PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup and European Tour’s Race to Dubai titles. Stenson also posted his top finish in a Major, finishing runner-up to to Phil Mickelson at The Open. In 2014, he has already recorded five top ten finishes and is assured of a place in Europe’s Ryder Cup Team at Gleneagles, for what will be his third Ryder Cup outing.
Located in the vibrant city state of Dubai, Jumeirah Golf Estates, home to the DP World Tour Championship – the season-ending finale of The European Tour’s Race to Dubai – is now indisputably one of the region’s most exciting all-round golf complexes. The venue encompasses two Greg Norman-designed Championship layouts in the Earth and Fire courses, a luxury residential golf community, a state-of-the-art clubhouse currently under construction and the first European Tour Performance Institute in the Middle East which boasts world class training facilities for elite professional and amateur golfers alike.
