Stenson hopes to carry on improving after Crans third place

Henrik Stenson hopes to keep building momentum after following up last week's fourth place finish at the D+D Real Czech Masters with another strong week at the 2021 Omega European Masters.

The Swede posted a spotless 63 at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club on Sunday to propel himself up to third place on 11 under par, just two shots behind champion Rasmus Højgaard.

That represents an improvement on last week's finish at Albatross Golf Resort, where he was three strokes back in a tie for fourth.

Those finishes were Stenson's first two top tens of the season on the European Tour as he looks for a first title at this level in more than five years.

The 2016 Open Championship winner began the final round in Switzerland six shots off the lead after sandwiching Friday's 64 between two rounds of 71 on Thursday and Saturday.

But he got off to a lightning quick start, following up a stunning birdie at the first with four in a row from the third to jump to nine under.

He then made two more birdies - both from close range - at the 14th and 15th, the two par fives on the back nine, to jump to 11 under.

And after pulling off one of the best up-and-downs of the day to save par on the 16th, he carried on creating birdie chances but had to settle for pars at the 17th and 18th.

But he was keen to look on the bright side after another good finish.

He said: "Two strong rounds this week, even though I still feel like I want to have a bit more security in my long game. That’s really the area that I’m focusing on.

"We’ll take the positives once again and move on to Italy and hopefully we can keep on getting better."
