The stage is set for a compelling final round of the 112th US Open at the Olympic Club in San Francisco and here’s what the leading actors had to say.
Graeme McDowell (-1):“I expect a great atmosphere on this golf course. It’s like a one sided amphitheatre, going down that slope. The crowds are fantastic, and there really is a good buzz out there. I'll expect there to be large cheers going off. Maybe kind of a Sunday afternoon at Augusta, the way the cheers go around that place. All I can ask to give myself a chance down the stretch and hope for the best really.”
Jim Furyk (-1):“I probably won't try to look at the leaderboard too much, I'll get a feel for how things are going score wise, but it will be more about trying to play the golf course tomorrow rather than trying to play Graeme or trying to play the guys trying to hunt us down.”
Fredrk Jacobson (+1):“Any time you can draw from good memories it helps. Obviously it's a new situation, it's a new tournament, so we're always starting from scratch; but I think last year being in contention here in the US Open and also playing pretty well in the Masters this year at least being around it a little bit and also getting to play the Majors over the last two years or year and a half helps.”
Lee Westwood: (+2):“I think every time you get yourself in contention you learn something new. I've been in contention a lot in different kinds of positions - leading, coming from behind; and in this tournament and other tournaments, the Masters, I finished third, so I was in contention there. I pick little bits out of all of those, but the main thing is just to go out there and believe that I'm good enough. I must be, I keep getting myself in contention often enough.”
Ernie Els (+2):“For some reason I'm patient again this week and that's been my virtue in Major Championship golf, the ability to be patient and wait it out. And I think you're going to have to do that tomorrow. If you have a little bit of a flier somewhere in the round take it and then protect it. If you get it into the red numbers, I think you'll win this tournament.”
Blake Adams (+2):“I just grind away at it. I don't have very many highs or low, I'm a pretty even keel guy. So for me, I'll just plug along and like I did and all day and just see where I stack up.”
Nicolas Colsaerts (+2):“It’s exciting. You get up to 18 and you see all these people and it's just so loud and I mean you dream of being part of moments like that. It's hard to describe how much flows in your veins at that moment.”
