Pinsent and Redgrave, the two sporting knights who between them won nine Olympic golds, will be joined at the traditional curtain-raiser to the €4.5million BMW PGA Championship by a cosmopolitan team of former international footballers in Roberto Di Matteo, Alan Hansen, Daniele Massaro,  Andrei Shevchenko and Gianfranco Zola.

Former British Number One tennis player Tim Henman, a more than useful golfer, will also tee it up along with Sir Clive Woodward, who guided England’s rugby team to World Cup glory in 2003, as well as Bruce Forsyth, who owns a property on the Wentworth Estate, and Anton du Beke, one of the stars of the popular BBC TV show ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ series presented by Forsyth.

Other names from the world of television and radio include Chris Evans, presenter of both the BBC Radio Two Breakfast Show and ‘The One Show’, and a self-confessed golf addict; Chris Hollins from the BBC Breakfast team; ‘Family Fortunes’ host and BBC Radio One DJ Vernon Kay; and Jeremy Kyle, eponymous presenter of the Jeremy Kyle Show.

World-renowned chef Jason Atherton is looking forward to serving up a tasty concoction on the West Course while England international hockey player Simon Mantell will also take part in the Pro-Am, which takes place the day before the 57th edition of The European Tour’s flagship event gets underway on the famous West Course.

The celebrities will be partnered by the cream of world golfing talent including, for the first time, the current holders of all four Major Championships: Germany’s Martin Kaymer (US PGA), Northern Ireland’s Graeme McDowell (US Open), and the South African duo of Louis Oosthuizen (The Open) and Charl Schwartzel (Masters).

The Pro-Am consists of two shotgun starts at 08.00 and 13.00 and entry to the day is priced at £8 if bought in advance viawww.europeantour.com/ticketsor £10 on the door.
