Sporting greats set for British Masters Pro-Am

The line-up for the British Masters supported by Sky Sports Pro-Am reads like a ‘who’s who’ of sporting legends, with cricketing greats Sir Ian Botham and Shane Warne among those already confirmed.

The tournament curtain-raiser, on Wednesday October 7, promises to be as entertaining as the event itself, with a host of stars from the worlds of cricket, football, motor racing, horse racing and show business tackling the Marquess’ Course at Woburn Golf Club in the company of some of the finest golfers in the world.

A number of Sky Sports’ popular presenters and analysts are taking part, including former footballers Jamie Redknapp, Matt Le Tissier and Graeme Souness, who will take to the course alongside Damon Hill, the 1996 Formula 1 world champion, and Sky Sports presenter Ed Chamberlin.

As a precursor to the main event from October 8-11, horse-racing fans will be excited to see the great AP McCoy, one of the most successful jockeys in history, in the flesh, a few months after he retired from the sport, bowing out at Sandown in April.

Kevin Pietersen will swap his cricket bat for golf clubs, joining former England cricketers Alan Lamb and Nasser Hussain, the ex-captain, who now works as an analyst in Sky Sports’ cricket coverage.

Other recognisable names in the Pro-Am include former footballers Kenny Dalglish, Alan McInally and Niall Quinn, as well as David Jones, another well-known Sky Sports presenter.

Jamie Birkmyre, Championship Director for the British Masters supported by Sky Sports, said: “We are delighted that so many of Sky Sports’ presenters and analysts have taken time out from their ‘day jobs’ of delivering great sport to our television screens each week to join many of the world’s best golfers at Woburn.

“There is a great synergy between the Tour professionals and the amateurs, from the worlds of sport, entertainment and business, who make up their Pro-Am teams. It promises to be a superb day and great entertainment for the public on October 7.”

Since its return was announced in March, the tournament has proved a big hit with the British public, with the opening round of the  tournament a complete ‘sell out’ following the ‘Sky Sports Thursday’ promotion, which offered 15,000 free tickets as part of the event’s aim to attract a new and existing audience to golf.
