Sponsors of the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, Rogers, Villas Valriche and Heritage Resorts, have partnered in sponsoring Ludovic Bax, the first Mauritian player to become a member of a professional golf tour.

Bax took up membership of the Sunshine Tour through the Affiliated Member status following a nomination by the Mauritius Golf Federation.

At 22, Bax became the first Mauritian to play a European Tour event when he teed it up in the inaugural AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open in 2015. He started playing golf aged ten and has represented Mauritius in the Eisenhower Trophy, one of golf’s leading amateur team events.

Bax said: “I am very excited about my nomination on to the Sunshine Tour. This is an amazing opportunity for me to move forward with my professional golfing ambition.

“Thank you to all the sponsors for their support, and to the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open for affording me the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity last year to participate in the first tri-sanctioned tournament between the Sunshine, European and Asian Tours as an amateur.

“I am looking forward to playing in this year’s tournament as a professional.”

The sponsorship will cover golf equipment, travel and accommodation when Bax plays in events, and as part of the agreement he will use the award-winning Heritage Golf Club, the host of the 2015 AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, as his home club.

Christophe Cure, President of the Mauritius Golf Federation, said: “The Mauritius Golf Federation is focused on developing golf in Mauritius, and we would like to congratulate Ludovic on becoming the first Mauritian to be a member of a professional Tour.

“We are confident he will continue to share his golf knowledge and skills with other upcoming Mauritian golfers as he progresses with his career.

“Let me take this opportunity to also thank Rogers, Villas Valriche and Heritage Resorts for showing their commitment to growing golf in Mauritius as evidenced by their sponsorship of the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, and Ludovic.

Ryan Dodds, Chairperson of the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open Organising Committee, added: “Congratulations to Ludovic Bax. We wish him a very fruitful career. We have no doubt he will raise the Mauritius flag high when he participates in this year’s AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open.”

The AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open 2016 will be held at Four Seasons Golf Club Mauritius at Anahita May 12-15.
