Spaniards looking for more sporting success

Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño and José Manuel Lara did not let Spain's World Cup win go to their heads at St Andrews on Monday - they were out practising at 7am.

"I went straight to bed after the game. This is a big week," said Fernandez-Castaño.

"But it was fantastic to watch. I was in a bar and when we scored I jumped on the sofa and people started hugging me as if I had got the goal.

"I spoke to my wife and apparently Madrid was paralysed by people out on the streets celebrating.

"We won Wimbledon, the World Cup, but not the Grand Prix unfortunately. Hopefully now The Open."

There are seven Spaniards competing in the championship, Fernandez-Castaño and Lara being joined by Alejandro Cañizares, Sergio Garcia, Ignacio Garrido, Miguel Angel Jiménez and Alvaro Quiros.
