South Africans win dream Mauritius trip

Gert Myburgh Senior will finally take his wife on a honeymoon 34 years after their wedding after he won a dream holiday in an AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open competition.

The South African was announced as the winner of the VIP Experience, receiving two plane tickets to Mauritius, a five-day stay at the prestigious Heritage Le Telfair Golf and Spa Resorts, entry into the pre-tournament pro-am and full access to the event itself, held at Four Seasons Golf Club at Anahita from May 12-15.

“We are crazy happy that this dream came true at last,” said Myburgh Senior. “This is going to be the honeymoon we never had, after almost 34 years of married life, and our first time outside the borders of South Africa. It couldn’t have come at a better time in our lives.

“Being a huge golf fanatic, I cannot wait to play in the pro-am and meet professional golfers from all over the world.”

Adding to the excitement is the fact that their son, Gert Myburgh, who is a professional player on the Sunshine Tour, is hoping to earn a place in the field for the €1million tournament by coming through qualifying at Woodhill Country Club in Pretoria.

Myburgh Senior is the second lucky winner of the competition after Elizabeth Hinds from the UK won last year.

The AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open is the first tri-sanctioned golf tournament endorsed by the Sunshine, European and Asian Tours.

A strong field is confirmed for the event’s second edition, including Belgium’s Nicolas Colsaerts, Frenchman Thomas Levet, India’s Jeev Milkha Singh and Australian two-time European Tour winner Scott Hend.
