Smooth sailing for Ferrie at Hartl Resort

Kenneth Ferrie fired a seven under par third round of 65 on Saturday to catapult himself towards the top of the leaderboard at the Bad Griesbach Challenge Tour by Hartl Resort.

The Englishman finished two behind the lead held by Victor Riu, who had not even teed off when Ferrie signed for his superb score on Saturday lunchtime.

Six birdies and an eagle on the Beckenbauer course were what did it for Ferrie, who has won twice on The European Tour in his career, and depending on what the leaders do this afternoon, he could be ideally placed to challenge for the title in Bad Griesbach.

Ferrie joked as he signed his card that if it had been a 17 hole course this week he would be leading, and he’s not far wrong, having finished today with a bogey at 18, and a costly quadruple yesterday on the ninth, his last.

“I’m playing alright, I didn’t hit it that great the first couple of days, but I didn’t hit it in any trouble,” explained Ferrie. “I’ve found a little something on the greens and that’s improved my putting quite dramatically, so yeah I’m playing pretty good, I just need to stay patient and let it happen.

“I don’t know if that’s enough to get me in contention for tomorrow, you never know, as every week there is someone out here shooting ridiculously under par, so I don’t know. It has moved me forward and that’s the main idea, to just keep going forward every day.

“I want to get back into winning ways if I can, but like I say, baby steps first and hopefully I can be there or there abouts tomorrow.”

Also going well during the third round are England’s Andrew Johnston, who is five under for his round through 12 holes, to climb into a current tie for 11th place at eight under par, and he’s alongside Sebastian Garcia Rodriguez on that mark, who is four under for his day so far through nine holes.
