American Jeff Sluman sits atop The Senior Open Presented by Rolex leaderboard after carding a second round of 68 for an eight under par total on the Old Course at St Andrews.
The American reached ten under par before a double bogey on the 13thsaw him return to eight under par, but still leading the Championship.
All second round tee times were delayed for two hours and 20 minutes after heavy fog blanketed the hallowed links of the Old Course on Friday morning.
Both Jarmo Sandelin and Vijay Singh carded second rounds of 69, three under par, to share second place alongside overnight leader Kirk Triplett who remains seven under par after nine holes.
“It was a little disappointing this morning because we had to wait so long to go out there and play,” said three-time Major Champion Singh. “We were fired up, and I woke up at 4:30 in the morning to get ready and my tee-time wasn’t until after 12:00.
“But that’s the way it goes. I’m happy to be done and I’m looking forward to the weekend.”
Sharing fifth place are Mauricio Molina and Tom Pernice Jnr on six under par, while victorious 2014 Ryder Cup Captain Paul McGinley remains on six under after starting his second round in the afternoon.
Home favourites Sandy Lyle and Colin Montgomerie moved into contention as they reached five under par after 36 holes.
“Today I played very similar to yesterday,” said Lyle. “Very tidy golf, and got the early birdies. I had a nice eagle at 14 and that really helped push the momentum.
“I know the course really well, and you can get it around and not have to go straight in the fairway all the time; you can hit a few wild ones and still get away with it.”
Despite carding a four under par round of 68, Montgomerie believed he left a few opportunities out on the Old Course.
“It was difficult out there today,” said Montgomerie, who goes in search of his first Senior Open title. “You could hit the greens in regulation, but you’ve got to take the chances. You’ve got to take the putts when you have the chance to take them, and I didn’t do that today.”
The pair are joined in the clubhouse on five under par by André Bossert and Brandt Jobe.
