He said: “This is a brilliant idea and it is a fantastic way for Sky Sports and The European Tour to follow through on their promise to appeal to golf fans and attract more visitors.  The British Masters is going to be a great event and the fact that the first day’s play will be free means that anyone can get a ticket and come down to Woburn to watch some of the world’s top golfers in action on a stunning golf course.

Barney Francis, Managing Director of Sky Sports, said: “We’re really proud of our support of the British Masters and ‘Sky Sports Thursday’ is great way to encourage those who have never watched live golf to get themselves some tickets and come and watch.  We hope this, and the other support that Sky Sports and The European Tour provide, helps to make the British Masters a popular event on The European Tour schedule again for new and existing golf fans, whether they’re watching at Woburn or at home.”

Jamie Birkmyre, Championship Director of the British Masters supported by Sky Sports, said: “Sky Sports Thursday is a superb initiative aimed at widening the audience for the tournament and the game in general.
