Singh defeated American Jeff Maggert on the second play-off hole after the pair both returned 72-hole scores of 20 under par.

Singh spun a wedge to within tap-in distance on the second hole of sudden-death and easily made birdie from there — emerging victorious as Maggert failed to convert his 25-foot birdie attempt.

“It's a Senior Major — any time you win a tournament, you feel accomplishment, and that's what I feel,” he said.

The decorated Fijian, who famously ended Tiger Woods’ 264-week reign at the top of the Official World Golf Rankings in September 2004, will look to claim his next Senior Major in short order when The Senior Open Presented by Rolex is contested on the Old Course at St Andrews from July 26- 29.

In a career that has seen impressive runs of success, and with a new total of 63 professional victories, the World Golf Hall of Fame Member has signalled that he may be returning to form.

“Winning my first tournament at the beginning of the year was big, and now I've won this one, so I look forward to winning a lot more now,” he said. “I always say, the first one, you get the first one out of the way, you can win a lot more after that.”

Singh, will enter the tournament as one of the favourites along with his fellow Staysure Tour Members Miguel Ángel Jiménez, Bernhard Langer and Clark Dennis, all of whom finished inside the top 20 at the Constellation Senior Players.

The Senior Open Presented by Rolex will be played on the Old Course for the first time in its 32-year history. A record-breaking 636 qualifiers, will bid for a spot in the field at four different Monday qualifying sites on July 23.
