Golfers of all abilities gathered last Monday in memory of golfing great Severiano Ballesteros at Foxhills Club and Resort where a grand total in the region of £50,000 was raised for the Seve Ballesteros Foundation (SBF).
The pro-am, in partnership with EFG International, and organised by PGA South Region, brought 32 professionals and their amateur teams together in remembrance of Ballesteros, who sadly died on May 7 at the age of 54.
Hosting the evening was former European Tour player Gary Evans, who took the individual professionals’ prize, with guest speaker Bernard Gallacher, who made a moving speech about the formation of The European Ryder Cup Team and some of his memorable and amusing encounters with the legendary Spaniard.
PGA Director of Regions and Membership, Liam Greasley, commented; “It’s wonderful to see what so many people are prepared to do for one of golf’s most loved characters. We miss him, but he’s left us all with amazing memories and a wonderful way to show we care.”
Two of Seve’s three brothers, Manuel and Vicente, and his nephew, Ivan, were present throughout the day, with Ivan making a speech thanking participants for joining in the “Seve legacy”.
Prizes from throughout the world of golf were donated for the auctions, including two tickets for the Masters Tournament 2012, a signed Mizuno Tour bag form World Number One Luke Donald, a week’s villa accommodation at Royal Westmoreland, Barbados, limited edition Seve prints plus lots more.
