The European Senior Tour will return to the south of France from September 22-24, 2011 for the second edition of the Cannes Mougins Masters.

Frenchman Marc Farry, who co-organises the tournament at Cannes Mougins, will defend his title after finishing two strokes clear of former Ryder Cup player Gordon Brand Jnr in the inaugural event.

The tournament, which will run from Thursday to Saturday, will have a Pro-Am format, with the professionals playing alongside an amateur partner for the first two rounds followed by professionals only on the final day.

With a prize fund of €250,000, the Cannes Mougins Masters will then be followed by a further Inter Cliniques Pro-Am upon conclusion of the professional tournament.

Cannes Mougins previously hosted the Cannes Open on The European Tour from 1984 to 2001, with the roll call of champions including Senior Tour players David Frost (1984), John Bland (1986), Mark McNulty (1988 and 1990) and Ian Woosnam (1994).

Andy Stubbs, Managing Director of the European Senior Tour, said: “It was great for tournament golf to be back in Cannes in 2010 and the senior professionals really enjoyed their return to the classic golf course of Cannes Mougins.

“Our thanks go to the promoter, Frédéric Dubois, for all of his hard work in co-ordinating the sponsorship and his excellent organisation, working alongside Marc Farry who advises on all playing matters.”

Georges Barbaret, President of the French Federation of Golf, said: “The Cannes Mougins Masters is an important part of France’s bid for The 2018 Ryder Cup and we are delighted to have the support of Frédéric Dubois and Marc Farry in organising this European Senior Tour event.

“We see this tournament as a great opportunity to draw the attention of the French media and public to golf, at a local and national level. Some great stars of the game have won in Cannes when this event was part of the European Tour calendar and the French Federation looks forward to seeing the legends of the sport return to Cannes again.”
