Senior Tour season to resume in Brunei

The 2011 European Senior Tour campaign resumes after a short winter break with the first event of the new calendar year - The Aberdeen Brunei Senior Masters presented by The Stapleford Forum at Brunei’s spectacular Empire Hotel and Country Club from March 4-6.

It will be the third edition of the US$350,000 tournament, which was inaugurated in 2009 when American Mike Cunning captured the title over the par-71 Jack Nicklaus signature course affording stunning views of the ocean.

Last year, Thailand’s Boonchu Ruangkit claimed his maiden Senior Tour title by beating Frankie Minoza of the Philippines in a play-off to spark a run of three consecutive victories which culminated in his overall success in the Senior Tour Order of Merit at the end of the season.

Andy Stubbs, Managing Director of the European Senior Tour, said: “We are excited about returning for a third time to the magnificent Empire Hotel and Country Club Resort. Following our visits to Australia, Japan and Mauritius before Christmas, this is the perfect place to start a long and exhilarating 2011 campaign and which will reach a fitting climax in December.

“We would like to thank Aberdeen Asset Management for their continued support, Brunei Tourism for their commitment to the Senior Tour, The Stapleford Forum and to promoters WSM Sponsorship, who have worked closely with us to create and development this superb event.”

Also commenting on the return of the event to Brunei, Sheikh Jamaluddin bin Sheikh Mohamed, Chief Executive of Brunei Tourism, said: “I think I speak for all Bruneian’s when I say that we are delighted that the Aberdeen Brunei Senior Masters presented by the Stapleford Forum is returning to the Kingdom of unexpected treasures for the third consecutive year.

“With more than 70 per cent of Brunei’s land area covered by primary rainforests, it’s often known as the ‘Green Heart of Borneo.’ We very much hope that all the golfers and visitors who travel to Brunei for the tournament will have time to experience life beyond the golf course!”

Further dates and venues on the 2011 European Senior Tour Schedule will be announced very shortly.
