Some of the Senior Tour’s biggest names were making a push towards the top of the leaderboard in the early stages of the second round in the Benahavis Senior Masters, with Mike Harwood, Barry Lane, Carl Mason and Gary Wolstenholme all climbing.

Barry Lane, who came second in last year’s Senior Tour Order of Merit, had a flying start to his round as birdies at the first, second, fourth and sixth holes left him four under par through six and six under for the tournament, a shot behind overnight leader Mark Mouland who started with three pars.

The Senior Tour’s record title-winner Mason was four under through nine holes thanks to birdies at the first, fifth, seventh and ninth, moving to five under for the tournament as he chases a third Benahavis Senior Masters title in four years.

Harwood was also just two shots off the lead in the Benahavis region of southern Spain after gaining shots at the first and second holes before further birdies at the fourth and eighth holes left him four under through nine.

Wolstenholme, who won the season-opening Mallorca Open Senior two weeks ago, also had a positive start to his round with a birdie at the par four third hole taking him to one under through three and five under for the tournament.

Marc Farry, meanwhile, was having the round of the day as seven birdies left him seven under par through 15 holes.
