Senior Open qualfying concluded

Scotland’s Billy Jack fired a four under par 69 to lead the rain delayed Senior Open Championship presented by MasterCard Qualifying at Downfield Golf Club.

Jack finished one stroke clear of Canadian Graham Gunn and Englishman John Hoskison, with 11 players sealing their place in the field for the championship at Carnoustie which begins on Thursday.

Torrential rain had forced the suspension of play on Monday with only 14 of 30 groups completing their rounds. That meant the remainder of the field had to return on Tuesday morning as the 11 players  joined the 22 qualifiers who progressed from Monifieth and Panmure.

Leading the qualifiers at Monifieth was American Kirk Hanefield, who carded a three under par 68 to finish one clear of Australian Graham Bannister.
At Panmure, Scotland’s Alastair Webster led the way with a one over par 71, with Mark Balen of the USA joining the English duo of Steven Bennett and Barrie Stevens in a share of second spot.

Six amateur players came through qualifying at Panmure and Monifieth to seal a place alongside many of golf’s most legendary names at Carnoustie, including Corey Pavin, Bernhard Langer, Tom Watson and Ian Woosnam.
