Jamie Hodges, Head of Challenge Tour, said: “We are extremely grateful to Esbjerg Golfklub and Flemming Astrup, the promoter of both events in Denmark, for their collective efforts in bringing this tournament to fruition.
“We are committed to providing our members with as many playing opportunities as possible and to be able to do so while reducing international travel is a real bonus.
“The Challenge Tour has a long and storied history of visiting Denmark and that is credit to Flemming and his team, as well as the wonderful venues who accommodate us.”
Flemming Astrup, Promoter of the Sydbank Esbjerg Challenge, said: "I am sure it is going to be two absolutely amazing weeks. I am extremely happy that together with our sponsors, the European Challenge Tour and not least Esbjerg Golfklub, we have managed to make another Danish Challenge Tour event.
“It is good for the Challenge Tour players, good for Danish golf and it makes the celebration of Esbjerg Golf Club even more historic."
The venue previously hosted Challenge Tour events in 2004 and 2005 having been initially designed in 1975 by Frederik Dreyer. Located close to the North Sea, the wind coming off the ocean poses a formidable test, with strategically placed bunkers ready to punish any slightly wayward shot.
