A joint best round of the day left Charl Schwartzel delighted as he kept alive his hopes of challenging in the WGC - Cadillac Championship.

The 2011 Masters Champion was five shots adrift of the leaders following the opening day at Trump Doral, yet found his feet in spectacular fashion on the Blue Monster course today.

Schwartzel's 65 - which left him eight under par overall - was matched only by Tiger Woods, who is two shots ahead of Graeme McDowell at the summit of the leaderboard.

The South African was understandably satisfied with his efforts, but felt he could have ended the day in an even better position.

Schwartzel, who is five strokes behind Woods, said: "It was (a great round). The greens are fast and firm and, of course, it's tough so I am very happy with the score. I gave myself so many chances today.

"After a round like that when you get so many chances, you feel like you could have shot even better. I will be playing the same game, giving myself chances. Hopefully by Sunday I will be right there."

Schwartzel et al have profited from outstanding conditions that will likely not be seen over the weekend as the usual wind is set to hit the resort.

Another talking point is whether the greens will be watered given the course is to be completely revamped in the aftermath of the event.

Schwartzel added: "I think it is going to get tougher and tougher. They're going to have to put water on the greens if the wind blows because they are really getting very fast."
