Marcel Schneider will take a narrow one-shot lead into the final round of the Prague Golf Challenge at Prague City Golf after posting a five under par 67 on Day Three.
The German sits on 14 under par after 54 holes, one shot clear of nearest challengers Robert MacIntyre and Robin Sciot-Siegrist, who posted the low round of the day by signing for an eight under par 64.
But the day belonged to Schneider who, despite carding four back nine bogeys, will lead the way into the final round in the Czech capital as he goes in search of a second European Challenge Tour title of the season.
The Swiss Challenge presented by Association Suisse de Golf champion carded two eagles during his round and is content with how he hit the ball on his way to snatching the lead in Prague.
“I’m quite happy with the result so far,” he said. “I’ve hit the ball very well and although I didn’t get too many putts in the hole today, they were all pretty close. I just have to stay patient, I guess.
“I don’t think I’ve made one mistake off the tee so far and my irons have been on the pin, so it’s been pretty good.
“The shot into the green is key. It’s quite wide off the tee but it can be very narrow getting into the green.
“You’ve got all those narrow parts of the green because it’s quite hilly and slopey. You have to focus on pin management.”
With the opportunity to turn his dream of being a multiple Challenge Tour winner into reality tomorrow, Schneider insists he will focus purely on his own game in pursuit of glory.
“I just have to focus on my own game and that’s the goal for tomorrow really, as simple as it sounds,” he said.
“It’s always been a dream to be a multiple winner on the Challenge Tour but I don’t want to think about that too much. I just want to try and shoot as low as possible tomorrow and see what the end brings.”
Although the 28 year old German holds the advantage with 18 holes remaining, a number of players will feel like they are in with a legitimate chance of winning the Prague Golf Challenge crown.
Second placed MacIntyre and Sciot-Siegrist are closely followed by Enrico Di Nitto, Florian Fritsch, Joel Girrbach, Adrian Meronk and Federico Zucchetti, who all sit a shot further back on 12 under par.
Wil Besseling, Jeppe Pape Huldahl, Paul Maddy and Ben Stow closely follow on 11 under par with four more players on ten under.
The final round will begin at 8.20am local time, with the final group of MacIntyre, Schneider and Sciot-Siegrist set to tee off at 10.10am local time.
