Sandelin sets new course record as Wiratchant moves ahead

Sweden's Jarmo Sandelin carded a ten under par round of 62 during the final round of the MCB Tour Championship, setting a new Senior Tour course record at Constance Belle Mare Plage.

The Swede made the turn in just 30 strokes, and was seven under par after the tenth hole.

A bogey on the last saw him drop to six under par, but he birded four of the last five holes to sign for a 62 and a nine under par total at the final event of the 2017 European Senior Tour season.

"It's probably the best round I've ever had," said Jarmo. "11 birdies on the card, it's a great feeling.

"On the 18th I had 220 yards to the green with the wind against. There was water on the left and the right, so I thought it was a soft three wood.

"Unfortunately I didn't catch it perfectly and was short of the green. Unfortunately it was a chip and a two-putt, but 62 is fine. It's the last round of the year so I'm really happy.

"I was really relaxed out there, and it was great having my wife as my caddie. It took me back to the 1990s when we travelled the world together."

After signing for his round, Sandelin sits in sixth place but is six shots behind on-course leader Thaworn Wiratchant.

The Thai is 15 under par after five holes, having birdied three of the first four. He is one stroke ahead of Ireland's Mark McNulty and four ahead of Peter Fowler.
