San Domenico Golf sponsors Pavan

San Domenico Golf, host venue for the season-ending Apulia San Domenico Grand Final on the European Challenge Tour, has announced its sponsorship of rising Italian player Andrea Pavan.

Andrea Pavan - 7th in the 2011 Challenge Tour Rankings

Pavan finished in a tie for 20th place at the recent Barclays Kenya Open, where he was making his Challenge Tour debut, and he finished in a tie for 22nd place on his European Tour debut when still an amateur at last year’s BMW Italian Open.

The 21 year old, who was born and raised in Rome where his love of golf began, recently turned professional after competing at the World Amateur Team Championships in Argentina.

At the end of an impressive amateur career, he finished fifth on the R&A’s World Amateur Rankings, second on the EGA’s European Amateur Rankings and topped the Italian National Rankings.

Pavan, who graduated from the University of Texas in the United States last December, achieved impressive results throughout his collegiate career and across Europe.

At University, he was a first team All-American in 2010, and also a winner of numerous league championships. In 2009, he was a member of the team which won the NCAA Championship, the most prestigious event in US college golf.

Outside the States, Andrea was a member of Team Europe at the Jacques Léglise Trophy from 2004-2006, and again at the St Andrews Trophy in 2008.

He was also a member of the European Team which took on the United States at the Palmer Cup in both 2009 & 2010, a quarter-finalist at the Amateur Championship in 2008 and 2010, and finished runner-up at the European Amateur Championships in 2010.

Through San Domenico Golf’s sponsorship, Pavan will be an ambassador for the championship course in Puglia, southern Italy, and the San Domenico Hotel Group, the Melpignano family’s group of luxury hotels, as he travels across the globe pursuing his professional career.
