The English Ryder Cup star was four under par through 14 holes of his second round when play was suspended as the tournament made up for weather delays on the opening day in New Jersey.

American Matt Kuchar leads the way on ten under after reaching five under for his round with five holes to play.

That was one ahead of clubhouse leaders Webb Simpson and Gary Woodland, with Rose part of a group that also includes Masters Tournament winner Adam Scott in a tie for fourth.

Swede Henrik Stenson is on the same mark, but faces a three foot birdie putt at the 15th when play resumes on Saturday.
