Romain ready to rule in Egypt

Romain Langasque is hoping to continue from where he left off on the European Challenge Tour when he tees it up in the Red Sea Egyptian Challenge Presented by Hassan Allam Properties this week.

The young Frenchman currently sits in second place in the Road to Oman Rankings after keeping his cool in the African heat to secure a runner-up finish at the season-opening Barclays Kenya Open in Nairobi.

The 20 year old comes to Sokhna Golf Club in irresistible form after enjoying a dream debut at the Masters Tournament, where, having made the cut, he made five birdies during a remarkable back nine for a four under par closing round of 68 in his last event as an amateur.

After playing and practising alongside the likes of World Number One Jason Day, four-time Major winner Rory McIlroy and two-time Masters Champion Bernhard Langer at Augusta National, an inspired Langasque plans to hit the ground running in his first event since joining the paid ranks.

“Although I have turned professional nothing has changed,” he said. “My game has been in good shape for three or four months now so we will see. I do not want to say I will win or make the cut but I will just do my best.

“I really like the golf course and I have had to practise my putting a lot because the greens are very hard to read. I will try to play my best and hopefully that will mean I get a good result this week.”

Langasque, who received a Masters invite after winning the 2015 Amateur Championship at Carnoustie, hit the headlines after shooting 31 in his final nine holes to tie the record for the lowest back nine score by an amateur in Masters history.

“I learned more during the competition about how the top players play the course and their attitude on it,” he said.

“I learned so much from playing with Bernhard Langer because he was fighting and fighting all the time.

“He taught me that you have to play the best you can with every shot and play the best with your game, your shots and your feelings to succeed.

“I also played two holes with Rory which was good because we could talk about everything to do with golf.”
