Brandon Robinson Thompson is looking to the future after earning a first promotion to the DP World Tour in 2024.
The Englishman, who agonisingly missed out on graduation in 2023 by a single shot, ended 2024 18th on the Road to Mallorca Rankings to guarantee playing privileges on golf’s Global Tour.
The 32-year-old is now looking forward to the prospect of teeing it up on the Race to Dubai after seeing his hard work and dedication pay off.
“Maybe you can see some relief in me but deep down I’m really excited,” he said. “I’m just ready to play week-in week-out on the DP World Tour, and I’m excited to see what the future holds.
“It’s a long time coming. I’ve worked long hours, I’ve worked really hard, I’ve dreamt it and I guess it’s all coming true. It’s becoming a reality.”
Robinson Thompson’s rise to the DP World Tour began in 2023 when he secured a maiden Challenge Tour title in the Irish Challenge after receiving an invite to the event.
That win, coupled with four other top tens in just 12 starts saw him end the year 22nd in the Rankings, agonisingly close to promotion but having guaranteed his place on the Challenge Tour for the 2024 season.
Fast-forward 12 months and Robinson Thompson would go on to finish third in the Irish Challenge, before he recorded a second win in as many years the following week, with victory in the Farmfoods Scottish Challenge supported by the R&A all-but secure promotion.
“I played five events on the DP World Tour this year, made five cuts, and had a chance to win,” he added. “I know I belong there.
“It takes a team and without each and every one of them, I wouldn’t be heading to the DP World Tour.
“It goes all the way back to my grandfather who even started me in the game of golf. He’s where it began and why I started playing so without him I definitely wouldn’t be here.”
