Richardson joins stars at Staysure PGA Seniors after qualification success

Steve Richardson is one of ten golfers who secured their place at the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship after topping the leaderboard at the 18-hole qualifying tournament.

The 1991 Ryder Cup player carded a four under par round of 68 to tie for the lead with Andrew George on Monday at London Golf Club.

Richardson, who won two points alongside Mark James in his Ryder Cup debut at Kiawah Island Golf Resort, made seven birdies and dropped three shots as he qualified for the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship.

Englishman George holed six birdies and only two bogeys to tie for the top and secure his place in this week’s Staysure Tour event.

Australian Guy Wall took third place to qualify as he shot a round of 69, three under par. While six players; Michael Macara, Gary Rusnak, Angel Franco, Dean Sipson, Dennis Edlund and Mark Spooner carded rounds of 70 to qualify.

The final place went to Scotland’s Murray White after he won a play-off against Stephen McAllister, Andrew Sherborne, Steve Yates and Jose Manuel Carriles.

The Staysure PGA Seniors Championship will take place on the International Course at London Golf Club from August 2-5.

Entry to the tournament is free of charge, with a £10 daily car parking charge in aid of Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.
