Last season the Rolex Trophy saw its winner receive automatic exemption onto the European Tour as Nacho Elvira won his third title of the season to win immediate promotion to the main tour.
The prestigious event saw a field of just 42 competing concurrently in a Pro-Am for the duration of the event.
Spaniard Elvira became the third player to achieve instant promotion in Switzerland following after Kristoffer Broberg and Benjamin Hebert.
The winning score from last year’s event was 24 under par, as Elvira finished two shots clear of eventual Road to Oman rankings winner Ricardo Gouveia. There wasn’t much stopping Elvira who shot an opening round 63 to be just one adrift before hitting the front the following day and dominating the weekend.
Reaching the European Tour is a proud moment for any player. Elvira said: “It is a dream to be back on the European Tour. My aim for the season had been to get in the top 15 in the rankings, so this is beyond my expectations but so much better.”
The round of the week came from Ryan Fox who shot a bogey free 62 featuring three eagles. The Olympian is having a fine 2016 on the Challenge Tour having collected three top ten finishes from four events. He is currently just outside the top 15 positions.
