The appalling Austrian weather threatened to overshadow the tournament, but the greenkeepers worked tirelessly to produce a fantastic golf course and ensure the tournament did not have to be reduced by a round.

The players heaped the praise onto the greenkeepers, with Dutchman Daan Huizing tweeting: “The heroes of the week are the greenkeepers. Two full days of continuous rain, and the greens are still great”

On the course Elvira produced a fantastic display on the final day as he shot a six under 65 to hold off the challenge of Dantorp’s 64 and Ryan Evans’ nine under par 62.

Elvira had gone into the final day in a share of the lead with Alexander Björk, but immediately pulled away from the Swede with four birdies in his opening five holes.

Having bogeyed the 17th he produced an unbelievable approach shot on the 18th to make birdie cancelling that blemish out and seal a victory that set him firmly on the way to earning European Tour promotion.
