Rewind: Fowler claims consecutive Staysure Tour titles

With the PGA Seniors Championship returning to the Staysure Tour schedule for the first time since 2015, we take a look at Peter Fowler’s last victory on the European over-50s circuit.

The Australian shot 12 under par to take the Championship on his way to a runners-up finish on the Staysure Tour Order of Merit.

Fowler’s opening round of 68 saw him share the lead alongside Gary Emerson, Jean Pierre Sallat and Carl Mason, who was trying to win an unprecedented fourth PGA Seniors Championship following his victories at the event in 2004, 2007 and 2009.

At the end of day two the lead was with the Aussie following a four under par 67 at the Lee Westwood-designed Close House course. Mason was still hot on his heels, but Fowler had the advantage going into the weekend’s action.

On moving day the momentum was fully with the former BMW International Open winner. Fowler sunk five birdies and an eagle alongside three bogeys to lead by four shots heading into the final round. He was one of only ten players to card a score below 70 on the Saturday as the chasing pack faltered.

Fowler wrapped up victory on the final day of the PGA Seniors Championship with a one under par final round. The Australian claimed the victory by three shots but had a testing final round after bogeying the second, rolling in a birdie on the eighth but a double bogey on the ninth saw him go out in 38. However, Fowler’s experience paid dividends when he stroked in three birdies to return in a blemish free 32 to take the title.
