Return to Finnish form beckons after Law break

David Law returns to Finland – scene of two fine past performances – hoping that a much-needed week off can help him rediscover his best form at the Vierumӓki Finnish Challenge.

The Scot was tied for sixth in the event last year and in the top 15 in 2014, so – though Vierumӓki Resort is the third different course in as many years – Finland tends to bring out the best in him.

The 25 year old has shown glimpses of that ability with top tens in the Challenge de Madrid and the Swiss Challenge, but missed cuts at Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge and the Tayto Northern Ireland Open prompted a week off to recuperate and practise.

“The last few weeks have been a bit of a struggle,” he said. “I think I’ve played too much really, so I took last week off and it was good to spend some time at home and just recharge and regroup – I’m feeling pretty fresh compared to how I had been the last few weeks.

“I had a good week this week. I’d been playing well but then the two weeks in France and Ireland I really struggled in a way that I hadn’t struggled all year, but there’s a few things that me and my coach figured out.

“It was good to have a week to just work on it and now I’m back to seeing shots the way I was supposed to be hitting them rather than the ones I was hitting the last few weeks, so I’m feeling positive.

“It would be nice to be back at the same course but this one looks great, and it’s good to be back in Finland – I’ve had a couple of good weeks here in the past, a top 15 and then sixth last year, so hopefully more of the same.

“Right now the aim is to get into the top 50 or 45 going into the last four or five events. I think there’s six or seven before then, so the big aim is to get somewhere around the top 50 that guarantees you into China.

“The money is significantly more in those events at the end of the year that you can make a big leap, as long as you’re in the field, so that’s the big aim right now, just getting into the final few.”
