Reed raring to go in Hamburg

Masters Champion Patrick Reed is happy to be back in Hamburg for this week's Porsche European Open.

World Number 13 Reed returns to Green Eagle Golf Courses for the 40th anniversary of this event, having made a memorable albatross in his maiden appearance here last year.

The American Ryder Cup star arrives in Germany fresh from finishing in a tie for 28th at the Open Championship at Carnoustie.

The 27 year old is a big fan of this week's host course and is looking forward to getting started.

He said: "I feel good. It’s always nice to be back here and even though it was really wet last year and the conditions were really hard, I really enjoyed it.

"I love the city, I love the layout of the golf course - it’s an awesome golf course. So I can’t wait for the week to get started.

"The fourth hole is a great risk-reward par four, and the par-five 16th is going to play a lot different to last year.

"Being so long and with the rain last year it was playing so hard, it was actually good if you made par there.

"Those two stand out as two crucial holes because you don’t want to give away any shots at a par five and the fourth gave me a little issue last year so I want some sweet revenge on this one.

"My game feels good. I’m just trying to get back to seeing certain kinds of ball-flights, certain kinds of lines and how the ball is reacting compared to last week, so I’m trying to get back to the comfort zone and it’ll be really quick and easy to do that."

Reed, who ended his wait for a first Major title at Augusta National in April, heaped praise on Francesco Molinari after the Italian won the Open last week.

Molinari shot bogey-free rounds of 65 and 69 over the weekend on the Angus coast to win his first Major by two strokes.

Reed said: “You’re just at an all-time high after you win your first Major. You’re very excited, you feel great about yourself and your game.

"You just have that self-belief and confidence that all the work you’ve put in is paying off. It was an awesome win for Francesco last week, especially the way he played.

"He played bogey-free for the weekend, which at Carnoustie is unbelievable.

"He showed the grit and grind to go out there and play how you’re supposed to at the weekend.

"It was awesome to see and now the big thing is to just manage your time and get back at it."
